Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Revealing details for the latest installment of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.
This warrior group includes Teor (played by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
The Reason for Division
Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the start that having everyone at a single group would be impossible.
This explains, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.
Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear unsuited, but the events of the third episode show why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the group knows exactly where to go next after a violent first encounter with the enemy group.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, attacking the character, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.
The traitor then cleared his debts and escaped to a secure base in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each character has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, desires retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the region and advises that it is a dangerous environment.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill Teor and instead freed him, have no other options.
- However, their reputation as key figures in the influential clan could help the group access places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This results in them few options but to travel to the northern region in search of the traitor.
